About Us

Gavin and Linda purchased the land for the vineyard in 1998. Twelve acres of vines were planted in 1999, with the first vintage in 2001. Varieties planted include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon producing approximately 2000 cases annually. Pinot Gris has been grafted to some vines with the first vintage harvested in 2009 and Sauvignon Blanc grafts to be harvested the same year.  (Unfortunately, the extreme heat destroyed our first vintage of the sauv.blanc for 2009)

Gavin makes all the wines on the property and he is passionate about making only premium wines, going to great lengths in the vineyard and winery to achieve the high quality he seeks. His efforts are rewarded with consistent wine show awards.

In June 2006 the ‘Stone Room’ cellar door was opened. Built from Western Australian limestone, it has a brick open fireplace, stone floor and granite and bluestone bar, all of which Gavin has taken part in construction.

Award winning wines are on offer for free tasting and antipasto platters are available indoors by the open fire or outdoors by the ornamental lake.

Being a boutique winery, you will often find Gavin or Linda at the cellar door with other staff, so you can enjoy the peace of B’darra Estate whilst having friendly chat and sampling some excellent wines including their unique dessert wine made from raspberries.

Meet the resident swamphens who often visit the cellar door for a nibble of bread or some seed kept especially for them. One accidental resident is a goose we have named Errol, who strolled in November 2006 and never left!  [Foxy Loxy took Errol late 2009]  January 2008, a stray goose was found on a nearby road and subsequently had been keeping Errol company - nicknamed Flynn he fretted after Errol disappeared so a new friend was found for Flynn and now we have a Lucy goosey for Flynn to hang out with.

The name B’darra is derived from an island off the North East coast of Queensland – Bedarra Island. Gavin and Linda having holidayed on the island, regard it as a piece of Queensland paradise, hence the naming of their 53 acre property – a piece of Victorian paradise.
